Have you ever earned a dividend?
If you’re reading this, maybe you still haven’t started to invest…
Or maybe you already invest and dividends are a normal part of your life.
Either way, I wanted to show you behind the scenes of what it’s like to earn a large part of your income as dividends.
Because that’s what I do and it’s freaking amazing!!
So if you’ve never had that feeling, I want you to experience it…
That first dividend – that first payment – is magical.
When you see that money in your brokerage account, something special happens in your mind.
New possibilities open up…
You haven’t been paid to wake up early, commute to your office and do what your boss says…
Not this time.
You’ve been paid just for being you.
You didn’t have to do a thing to earn this.
My First Time
For me, that happened in 2015.
I’d just got back from a particularly tiring day at work (I was working at Jaguar Land Rover at the time).
I was feeling pretty sad about my job and how much of my time and energy it was draining.
So as I took my coat off and collapsed on the sofa, I pulled out my phone from my pocket.
I then saw an email notification from Gmail.
Normally I wouldn’t really care about another email, but somehow I knew this was gonna be special.
It was from my broker, and it said this:
———————————————————-
Dividend: Chevron Corp – USD 1.07 x 40
Credit: USD 42.80
———————————————————-
In plain English, what this meant was that Chevron Corporation – one of the biggest energy companies in the world – had just paid me a dividend of $1.07 per share.
Since, at that time, I owned 40 shares, I earned $42.80.
That may not look like a lot of money, but to me, it made all the difference.
I had been paid just to be me – to live my life.
At my job, I would’ve had to work for hours to earn the same $42.
But instead, my money was working for me, paying me dividends so I could just live my life.
35% Covered
Nowadays, I have got a lot better at earning dividends.
Not only have I grown my stock portfolio to 6 figures, but I have started to witness the power of compound interest and dividend growth. Both of these are incredibly important for your long term wealth.
More importantly, around 35% of my expenses are now covered with just dividends.
I don’t have to worry about earning 35% of the money I need because the companies that I part-own are working hard for me.
In a few years, 100% of my expenses will be covered by my dividends.
Then I’ll never have to work for money again. I’ll just work for fun! 🙂
But enough chatter.
